FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ledwidge Lumber in BSLB Containment Area

Revised CFIA Regulated Containment Area

May 4, 2007 - Ledwidge Lumber is now within the Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle (BSLB) regulated containment area. Starting Monday, May 14, Ledwidge Lumber will be able to accept SPF studwood from areas in the new containment area as well as those areas that were within the old quarantine zone and unable to be harvested or processed.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulations for the new containment area state that there is free movement within the containment area of all wood products. Regulated articles that must be approved by CFIA to be moved out of the containment area are: spruce bark, spruce roundwood, and spruce wood chips that exceed 3.5cm in 2 of 3 dimensions. A business can get registered with CFIA to move regulated articles outside of the zone, by complying with particular policies and procedures specific to your business. Ledwidge Lumber is in the process of becoming CFIA-registered and hopes to complete the process as soon as possible.

In the meantime, our company (as previously stated) is able to accept wood from within the containment area. Please contact our studwood purchasing coordinator, Larry Hitz, for specifications.
